A general non-perturbative method for numeri-cally solving quantum field theories, ‘discretized light-cone quantization’, is outlined. Both the bound-state spectrum and the corresponding relativistic wavefunctions can be obtained by matrix diagonalization and related tech-niques. Emphasis is put on the construction of the light-cone Fock basis. The method of Discretized Light Cone Quantization (DLCQ), recently pro- posed for obtaining non-perturbative solutions to field theories, is applied to quantum-electrodynamics in one space.

Light-front (LF) quantization of massless fields in two spacetime dimensions is a long-standing and much debated problem. Even though the classical wave-equation is well-documented for almost two centuries, either as problems with initial values in spacetime variables or with initial data on characteristics in light-cone variables, the way to a consistent quantization in both types of frames. [3] extends to the non-perturbative realm. The power of a new method should also be measured by its ability to go beyond what is already known. Our new non-perturbative method in Quantum Mechanics shows its true strength in a second type of problems, namely, the spectral problems associated to quantum mirror curves.
